Wayne Anderson began a three year graphics course at Leicester College of Art at the age of fifteen, followed by a Postgraduate year. After leaving Art College he moved to London and established a freelance illustration career. He was married while living there and not wanting to bring a family up in London, moved back to a Leicestershire village. He works from home and also has a studio in Leicester which overlooks the market place in the centre of the city. Wayne's varied work has included greetings cards, posters, book jackets, magazine articles, record covers, CD covers and advertising work (British Airways, Icelandic Airways, AGFA, Budweiser, Hirondelle, Roche Products Ltd, British Gas, National Heritage Memorial Fund, Pearl Assurance). He also became involved with writing and illustrating books. 1976 RATSMAGIC first children's book published by Cape (and based on Wayne Anderson's idea): winner of the Gold Medal Award from the Society of Illustrators USA for best illustrated children's book. 1978 THE FLIGHT OF DRAGONS (adult book) published; made into a full length (90 min) animated film. Wayne created the characters, backgrounds and buildings as designer of the film. Shown on worldwide TV and available on video. 1992 THROUGH A LOOKING GLASS published, a 200 page book featuring Wayne's own career and pictures up until that date. 2001 GNOMES AND GARDENS (adult book) voted overall winner of the National Art Library Illustration Awards. Pictures from book exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum. 2002 THE TIN FOREST (children's book) won the Highly Commended Prize for the Victoria and Albert Illustration Awards.
